Gingivitis is a gum disease that causes tenderness, redness and swelling of the gum. Many people are affected by this gum disease but they are not aware about it. Gingivitis may not be severe but if left untreated for a long time, it can cause loss of teeth. Gingivitis is mainly caused by poor dental hygiene; however, there are other causes of gingivitis which include; diabetes, bacterial and fungal infection, use of certain medicine, poor nutrition and a weak immune system due to underlying health conditions. Some of the symptoms of gingivitis are; bad breath, soft and bleeding gums especially when brushing the teeth and tenderness and puffiness of the gum. Gingivitis can be treated by paying a visit to the dentist; nevertheless, you can also treat gingivitis at home without having to spend so much money on a dentist. There are several home remedies for gingivitis that help quickly relieve the symptoms of gingivitis and give you healthy gums. Here are some of the most effective home remedies for gingivitis.

  1. Cranberry juice

Cranberry juice helps to prevent the spread of bacteria thus controlling gingivitis. It also has some antiseptic properties that help get rid of the bacteria and the germs that cause gingivitis. Drink some cranberry juice to help to relieve and heal gingivitis

  1. Aloe vera

Aloe vera helps to sooth the swollen gum and reduces inflammation. It has some antibacterial properties that help in killing of bacteria thus promoting quick healing of the gum. Crash some aloe vera leaves and rub the aloe vera gel on your gum then gargle some water. Repeat this process once every day for three week and the gingivitis symptoms will be gone.

Baking soda is a popular home remedy for whitening teeth; however it can also be used to treat gingivitis. It has antiseptic properties that help it get rid of the bacteria and germs that may cause further infection on your gum. It also helps get rid of any inflammation and pain that you may be experiencing when suffering from gingivitis. Add some baking soda to lukewarm water and gargle the water.

Peppermint leaves also helps to get rid of inflammation and pain when suffering from gingivitis. It also helps prevent the spread of germs and bacteria that cause gingivitis thus providing quick relief for gingivitis. Soak some peppermint leaves in water for an hour and use the water to rinse your mouth.

Sage is a great herb that has antibacterial properties to assist in the fight against germs and bacteria.  Mix some sage powder with water and boil if for some few minutes then add some salt and use the water to rinse your mouth. It helps to sooth your gum and get rid of the infection.

Echinacea is a great herb that helps to boost immunity and prevent the spread of gingivitis. It also helps to reduce swelling and tenderness of the gum. Add half a teaspoon of Echinacea extract to warm water and use the water to rinse your mouth. Do this thrice a day for more effective results.

  1. Cayenne powder

Cayenne powder helps to fight bacteria thus treating and preventing gingivitis. Add some cayenne powder to your toothpaste and brush daily using the toothpaste. You might experience a burning sensation when you first brush your teeth but in time the burning sensation will subside.

  1. Salt and mustard oil

Mix two teaspoons of white oak powder, a teaspoon of clove powder, some mustard oils and salt then gently rub the mixture on your gum. This will help provide relieve form any pain and inflammation caused by gingivitis.

Any of the above remedies will help soothe the symptoms of gingivitis and quickly heal your gum. It is however important to maintain a proper diet and personal hygiene to avoid gingivitis.
