Common Relief for Constipation at Home

Laxatives are medicines and drugs used to treat constipation. Constipation is a condition where there are difficulties in the bowel movement due to less water content in the digestive system.

Constipation can be chronic or acute and can be caused by eating disorder, excess intake of dairy products, inadequate intake of water and lack of enough intakes of fiber-rich foods, colon cancer, pregnancy amongst other causes.

Other than difficulties in bowel movement, constipation can also be accompanied by other symptoms such as abdominal pain, heartburn, vomiting, straining when passing stool and intestinal pain.  You can visit the doctor and get some laxatives or you can get some at a drug store.

There are also natural home remedy laxatives that you can use at home to treat constipation. These laxatives are easily available in your kitchen and are effective in treating constipation. Here are some great natural laxatives.

  1. Castor Oil

Castor oil is great in treating constipation. It is a home remedy laxative that can easily help you get rid of constipation. Add a tablespoon of castor oil to warm milk and take the milk before going to bed. When you wake up, constipation and all its symptoms will be gone. This home remedy is recommended for adults.

  1. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is another great home remedy laxative that gives instant relief from both chronic and acute constipation. Mix 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel in your fruit juice and take it. It is important to note that aloe vera is a strong laxative thus should be used with caution since it can cause diarrhea.

  1. Lemon Juice

Lemon juice helps to cleanse the intestine and is thus a great natural laxative. Add a teaspoon of lemon juice in warm water and add a pinch of salt. Drink the mixture on an empty stomach. This mixture will help to get rid of constipation easily without having to visit your doctor or take any over the counter laxatives.

  1. Yoghurt

Yogurt contains the good bacteria that helps fight the bad bacteria. It also helps in improving digestion of food. Yogurt helps to cleanse the digestive system thus getting rid of constipation. Take at least one cup of yogurt each day to treat constipation.

  1. Olive Oil

Just like castor oil, olive oil is a great home remedy laxative that helps to stimulate the digestive system thus improving bowel movements. Add a teaspoon of lemon to a table spoon of olive oil and take it regularly to help relieve constipation.

  1. Guavas

Guavas are not only nutritious but they are also home remedy laxatives that easily and quickly treat constipation. Guava seeds are rich in fiber which helps to improve bowel movements thus getting rid of constipation.

  1. Cabbage

Cabbage is rich in fiber and has high water content which help cleanse the intestine and ease bowel movement. Blend some fresh cabbage to make cabbage juice and take the juice for quick relief from constipation.

  1. Raisins

Raisins are also great for relieving constipation especially for pregnant women since they do not have any side effects. Soak some raisins in water overnight and take them the next day on an empty stomach to help relieve constipation. Raisins are rich in fiber thus making them great home remedy laxatives.

  1. Baking Soda

Baking soda is not only a great home remedy laxative but it is also effective in relieving stomach aches. Mix a teaspoon of baking soda in a quarter cup of warm water and drink the mixture.

Spinach helps to cleanse the intestine thus getting rid of constipation. Take spinach juice 2 times a day. You can take it raw or cooked. You can also add these vegetable to your diet so as to completely get rid of constipation.

  1. Flaxseeds

Flaxseeds are rich in fiber thus help to cure constipation. Soak some flaxseeds in lukewarm water and take the water to help relieve constipation.

  1. Oranges

Oranges are rich in vitamin C and fiber which help to get rid of constipation. They are thus great home remedy laxatives that can be used to relive constipation. Eat at least 2 oranges in a day to help get rid of constipation.

  1. Hot Milk with Ghee

Warm some milk and add a tablespoon of pure ghee to the milk. Take the milk and ghee before going to bed to help ease constipation symptoms and treat constipation.

  1. Coffee

Coffee contains caffeine which is a natural laxative that helps to stimulate the digestive system thus easing bowel movements. Sip a cup of coffee each day to help treat chronic constipation.

  1. Blackstrap Molasses

Mix 2 teaspoons of blackstrap molasses in a cup of lukewarm water and drink the mixture. This mixture is rich in magnesium which helps ease bowel movement thus getting rid of constipation.

Any of the above home remedy laxatives will help relieve constipation. Ensure that you take enough water and eat fibre-rich foods so as to prevent constipation.
